Bruchko - class reading

A passage from the novel that we talked about in class only became real to me when I read it for myself. Bruce’s attempts to work alongside the Motilone witch doctor and elevate her place in their society was beautiful to me. His dedication to helping the Motilone without changing their culture was honestly inspiring to me. He gave himself pink eye. He thought long and hard about how to save the people from disease without doing harm to their culture. He recognized the witch doctor as a woman who cared deeply for her people and worked very hard to call upon God to help them. He was not put off by her chants. He did not assume that she held demonic power. Bruce, with the wisdom of God, found a way to incorporate the blessing of modern medicine into the culture and customs of the Motilone people. I long to do this somehow when I share God’s word. I love that people can worship God faithfully in so many different ways. I look forward with great anticipation to heaven when people are praising God in harmony representing every nation, tribe, people, and language.
