Cabeza de Vaca - student choice

Cabeza de Vaca was an incredible movie that we watched in class. The intensity of the film was unparalleled. I could nearly feel Alvar’s anguish when he came to his breaking point. The movie introduced me to an idea that I had never considered before. Is Christianity compatible with the ideas of Shamanism?

I grew up attending a non-denominational church that sat somewhere between Baptist and Presbyterian. When I came to Newport News, I joined RUF, a presbyterian campus ministry and went to a Baptist church. I have never been pentecostal, so these connections between healing and Christianity that were presented in the movie were out of my comfort zone. But, I do think that shaman-like living and healing can be compatible with Christianity.

Is it bad that I am so uncomfortable with miraculous healings? Is that a testament of my weak faith? I do not know how to feel, but have been sparked to investigate this further…
