Class April 14 part two

Bruce Olson would not agree with the Prime Directive. He taught the Motilone not to defecate in the middle of the walkway because that would get them sick. Some Motilone even left and went to become lawyers to help their people. Anthropologists don't like this. They agree with the Prime Directive. How can you stand there and watch humans die when you know you could solve their problems easily? Olson says that eventually there is going to be contact made that is going to be negative so why not give them the positives now so they can protect themselves! The missionaries don't like him either because he didn't go through the correct channels to become a missionary and he didn't tell them to become Americans. He told them about the gospel in Motilone terms. Which I think is good that he did that, telling them Jesus was a Motilone.

Then it was photo time! I loved seeing all the photos of people in Kip’s past. Putting a face to names and places I had heard stories about, like John who he went hitchhiking with across the country and seeing the commune where Kip lived. I learned two things from the pictures. 1 in the 70s-80s people didn't wear shirts. 2 If you hear about a person named Goshen telling you about a cult called the Children of God, you should run.
