Dune - outside reading

I recently finished the book Dune by Frank Herbert so that I could watch the new movie adaptation. In the book, the main character is treated as a messiah by the locals of a planet that he travels to. He seems to line up with their religious prophecies and they borderline worship him. These people live in a way very reminiscent of the cultures that we have studied in this course. They live off the land in tribes and they are taken advantage of by other cultures who move there, much like the Native Americans. They also live on a planet with giant dangerous sand worms that come out of the ground. They worship these worms as gods and the worms are a source of terror for them. It sounded so similar to the Australian Aboriginal people that we recently studied with Ian McIntosh and how they approach the Rainbow Serpent.
