Helen Keller (assigned reading)

 2/4

This reading talked about when Helen Keller was learning the English language. She was deaf and blind from a very young age so it was very hard for her to learn how to communicate with people. I thought it was very interesting how Miss Sullivan would spell words into her hand and then give her the object she was spelling. Helen was unable to engage in the oral culture since she was unable to use her ears. The alphabet was very crucial to Helen learning the English language and being able to communicate with others. I wonder what would have happened if Helen grew up in an oral culture? I wonder if she would have found a way to communicate with the world without the alphabet.
